A major disadvantage of laying eggs is that it is difficult to move them once they are laid, so it is important to find the perfect climate and environment in which to lay the eggs.

This is of particular concern to desert species, snakes for example...typically oviparous in the desert tend to be ovovivparous, this means the egg hatches inside the snakes body and they bare live young for a short time, this is beneficial because of course the snake can then regulate the climate it's self.
