a Let the smaller angle be y degrees

Therefore, the larger angle = y + 40 degrees

y + y + 40 = 90

2y + 40 = 90

2y = 90 - 40 = 50

y = 50/2 = 25 degrees

y + 40 = 25 + 40 = 65 degrees

The smaller angle = 25 degrees

The larger angle = 65 degrees

b Let the smaller angle be x

Acc. To Question,

x+4x=90

5x=90

x=18

Therefore

Smaller angle= 18 and larger angle=72
