8. Find the value(s) of p for which the following pairs of linear equations have no
solution:
(i) - X + py = 1
px - y = 1
(ii) (3p + 1)x + 3y = 2
(p2 + 1) x + (p - 2) y - 5 = 0.

Step-by-step explanation:

(i) a1= -1 , b1 = p and c1 = -1

a2 = p , b2 = -1 and c2 = -1

a1/a2 = b1/b2 not equal to c1/c2

-1 / p = p / -1

p × p = -1× -1

p^2 = 1

p = 1

(ii) a1 = ( 3p+1) , b1 = 3 and c1 = -2

a2 = (p^2 +1) , b2= (p-2) , c2 = -5

3p+1/ p^2 +1 =3 / ( p -2)

3( p^2 +1) = p( 3p+ 1) -2 ( 3p+ 1)

3p^2 +3 = 3p^2 + p -6p -2

3 + 2 = -5p

-5p = 5

p = 5 /-5

p = -1
