Given equation -

x² + k(2x+k-1) +2 = 0

Simplify -

x² + 2kx +k²-k+2 = 0

And equation has real and equal roots implies that -

b²-4ac = 0

So, here; a = 1 ;b = 2k ;c = k²-k+2

Replacing these values in above mentioned equation .

(2k)²- 4 ( 1)(k²-k+2) = 0

4k² -4k²+4k -8 = 0

4 k- 8 = 0

4k = 8

k. = 2

Hence value of k if roots of given equation are real and equal is 2 .
