- The first heavenly body that was discovered by men was the moon.

- The different shapes of the Moon that we see at different times of the month are called the Moon's phases.

- During this motion of earth and moon around the sun, there occurs a natural phenomena called eclipse when the sun, moon and earth align in a straight line. The duration when this phenomenon occurs is called the eclipse season. There are two forms of eclipse namely, the solar eclipse and the lunar eclipse.

- The Moon's weak atmosphere and its lack of liquid water cannot support life as we know it.

- Tides are the rise and fall of sea levels caused by the combined effects of the gravitational forces exerted by the Moon and the Sun, and the rotation of the Earth. Tide tables can be used for any given locale to find the predicted times and amplitude.
