The french society was organised on the basis of the system of old regime which refers to the establishment of monarchs and the practice of the system of estates .

The society was divided into three estates as follows

1-Clergy - It included the church and its officials . It had various powers in order to collect tax from the third estate .

2-Nobility - Included members of the royal council , ministers etc

Together the clergy and nobility enjoyed certain privileges .

They did not have to bear the pain of paying taxes to the state.

3- 3rd estate - It comprised of workers , labourers , lawyers etc.

They had the burden to bear alone the financial unstability of the society .

They were treated unfairly .
