Hey there !

Solution:

Given Equation: 5 - 3x = 2x + 9

Adding 3x on both sides we get,

=> ( 5 - 3x ) + 3x = ( 2x + 9 ) + 3x

=> 5 = 5x + 9

Now we have a single term on the left hand side and two terms on the right hand side. Hence we can remove that single term rather than the double term.

Hence we must subtract 5 from both sides so that 5 on the left hand side gets eliminated.

Hence -5 must be added on both sides.

Hence option 2 is correct.

Hope my answer helped !
