i Agree with this statement that Nothing in this world ever comes quite free ..Doc.. wilson wanna say that if Jody had killed the doe to save the life of his father..because to cut the poison of snake Doe's Liver and heart is needed..So in regard it's fawn had to be taken care..because without her mother  she will die starve or became the food of other animals in a huge jungle..So Now jody had to take care of it and raise it..
