To find : how many additional men working at the same rate will be needed to complete the job in 8 days ?
solution : using forming, M₁D₁ = M₂D₂
M₁ = 8 , D₁ = 12
let number of men added to complete the work in 8 days, is x.
so, M₂ = (8 + x) , D₂ = 8
now, 8 × 12 = (8 + x) × 8
⇒12 = 8 + x
⇒x = 4
Therefore 4 additional men will be needed to complete the job in 8 days.
