 Let the total number of students in school be

% of students attended the school = 92%

Then,  students 92/100x=1633 or x=1775

Therefore the number of students absent  8/100x1775=142

Concept

A percentage in mathematics is a figure or ratio that is stated as a fraction of 100. Although the abbreviations "pct.", "pct.", and occasionally "pc" are also used, the percent sign ("percent") is frequently used to indicate it. A % has no dimensions and no associated unit of measurement.

Given

The 8% of the students in a school remained absent on a day. If 1633 attended the school on that day is given

Find

We have to find how many remained absent

Solution

The steps are as follow:

  • Given that 8% of the students in a school remained absent on a day and 1633 attended the school.
  • Let the total no.of students be x.
  • If 8% were absent that day 92% must be present.
  • Therefore, 92(x)/100 = 1633

x = (1633)(100)/92

x = 1775

No. of absentees = Total no. of students - no. of present                           = 1775 - 1633 = 142

Hence total 142 remain absent on that day
