The Fighting Vessel

In a village lived a poor woman and her son, Chakalia Panda. There was nobody else in the family. Chakalia's father had been a wood-cutter. He used to earn some money

by cutting the wood from the nearby jungle and selling it. Chakalia had learnt a few tricks of cutting wood from his father but his father had passed away due to illness. Sadly, the mother and son were left to fend for themselves. After his father's death, Chakalia started cutting wood and selling them. However, he wasn't earning well. Because of this, they had to go

hungry on many nights.

In the village that they lived, there was a pond which was believed to be the

abode of mother Goddess. One day, distraught and upset with his life, Chakalia Panda wandered around that pond. He was just sitting around and dreaming about having a full

meal. He had seen a kid, his age, having a thali that day and it made his stomach growl with hunger. He was just throwing pebbles in the pond, when he said to himself, "Oh Goddess! I

want some good food. Nothing delicious or fancy but just some rice and dal." To his utter surprise he saw a pot appear right in front of him. Out of curiosity he opened the lid, and smelled delicious rice and dal. He was ecstatic. He quickly devoured some, and then packed

the remaining food for his mother. His mother, who had been hungry for the past two days, was too happy with the food to enquire about where he got it from.

From next day onwards, he went about cutting wood as usual. A few days later, he again wandered to the pond. He sat there thinking, "What if I wish for the second time? Will the Goddess help me?" He sat next to the pond and said, "I want rice, I want dal, I want curry". And the moment he stopped speaking, a pot appeared in front of him with dal, rice

and curry. He ate some and took the other half home.

From that day, this became a daily ritual. He used to sit next to the pond and

demand different kinds of food from the Goddess. The goddess, taking pity on him, used to give him a pot full of food everyday. He would eat his fill and give the rest to his mother. Since the problem of food was solved, Chakalia Panda became lazier and stopped working

altogether. The moment a pot became empty he would promptly go to the pond and start

making demands.

The Goddess was patient at first but eventually got annoyed and decided to teach

him a lesson. The next time when Chakalia Panda came, he demanded, "Oh mother Goddess, I want dal, rice, curry and dessert too. It has been days since I have had sweets."According to the villagers, who caught the thief? What made them think that? (2 marks)

Explanation:

Last Sunday my father took us to the East Delhi shopping mall. It is a huge four-storeyed building. It is fully air-conditioned with good security. We parked our car in the underground parking in the basement. We reached the ground floor by elevator, there were hundreds of shops of all kinds. There were separate sections for different kinds of products. We visited the apparels, Grocery, Electricals and Electronics sections and purchased many items. We visited the other floors also one by one and there were many more sections with all sort of things. I specially loved the toys and video games section. We bought many toys and games. Then we had some pizzas & burgars at the Food Bazar and came back home.
