8 taps fitted to water tank.Some of there water taps to fill the tank and the reamaining are outlet taps used to empty the tank .Each water tap can fill the tank in 12 hours and each outlet tap can empty it in36 hours.On opening all the taps,the tank filled in3 hours.Find the number of water taps?​

Each water tap can fill the tank in 12 hours and each outlet tap can empty it in 36 hours.

To find:

The number of water tap.

Solution:

Let the water tap are x

As per the data given in the question:

Let the capacity of the tank is 36 unit

                         Time                      Efficiency

Water tap           12 hr                           3    

Outlet tap          36 hr                           -1

We have given in the question that the tank is filled in 3 hours as all the 8 taps are opened

So the efficiency of the taps will be 36/3 = 12

• 3x+(-1)(8-x) = 12
• 3x-8+x = 12
• 4x = 12+8
• 4x = 20
• x = 20/4
• x = 5

Hence the number of water taps in the tank is 5
