8. The area of a trapezium-shaped field is 22500 m'. The length of one of the parallel sides is five
times the other and the perpendicular distance between them is thrice the shorter parallel side. Find
the lengths of the parallel sides and the perpendicular distance between them.
find its height, the length of the side

Answer:

Let the shorter of the parallel sides be x

Length of longer parallel side = 5x

Perpendicular distance between parallel sides = Height = 3x

Given, area of trapezium = 22500m²

\frac{1}{2}(a+b)h = 22500

⇒ (x + 5x) 3x = 22500 x 2

⇒ (6x) 3x = 45000

⇒ 18x² = 45000

⇒ x² = 45000/18

⇒ x² = 2500

⇒ x = √2500

⇒ x = 50m

∴ Length of parallel sides: x = 50m, 5x = 5(50) = 250m

  Perpendicular distance between parallel sides = 3x = (50) = 150m
