To find -

What is the age of the man ?

Solution -

Here , it is given that the ratio of the ages of the man and the son are 7 : 3 respectively.

Let them be 7x and 3x respectively .

So ,

Average of their ages -

=> ½ [ 7x + 3x ]

=> ½ [ 10 x ]

=> 5x .

But , this is 40 .

So,

5x = 40

=> x = 8

Age Of Man -

=> 7x

=> 7 × 8

=> 56 years.

Hence , Option C is the correct answer.
