8. The internal dimensions of an open, wooden
rectangular box are 3.2 m by 2.2 m by 1.5 m. If the
wood has a thickness of 0.2 m, find the volume of
wood used.

l=3.2 m

h= 1.5 m

w=2.2 m

Thickness of wood on either sides is 0.2 m

Add 0.4 to internal dimensions

l=3.2 m +0.4m = 3.6 m

h= 1.5 m +0.2= 1.7m

w=2.2 m+0.4 = 2.6m

 

Volume of wood = (3.6*1.7*2.6) - (3.2*1.5*2.2)

= 5.35 ft^3
