Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

The rainfall (in mm) in a city on 7 days of a certain week was recorded as follows:

Day -----Rain fall (in mm)

Mon-----------0.0

Tue-----------12.2

Wed --------- 2.1

Thurs------- 0.0

Fri ----------20.5

Sat -------- 1.0

Sun -------- 5.5

To find:-

1) Find the range of the rainfall in the above data.

ii)Find the mean rainfall for the week.

(iii) On how many days was the rainfall less than the mean rainfall.

Solution:-

1) The list of rain falls in a wek = 0.0, 12.2, 2.1, 0.0, 20.5, 1.0, 5.5

Highest rain fall = 20.5

Lowest rain fall = 0.0

We know that

Range of the data = Heighest value-Lowest value

=> Range = 20.5 - 0.0

=> Range = 20.5

ii)The list of rain falls in a wek = 0.0, 12.2, 2.1, 0.0, 20.5, 1.0, 5.5

Sum of all rain fall

= 0.0+12.2+2.1+0.0+20.5+1.0+5.5

=41.3

Number of all days = 7

We know that

Mean = Sum of all observations/Number of all observations

=> Mean = 41.3/7

=> Mean = 5.9 mm

iii) The mean rain fall = 5.9 mm

The rain fall on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday is less than the average mean rainfall

Number of days = 5

Answer:-

1) The range of the given data = 20.5

ii) The mean raain fall of the above data = 5.9 mm

iii) On 5 days the rain fall was less than the mean rainfall.

Used formulae:-

  • Range of the data = Heighest value-Lowest value

  • Mean = Sum of all observations/Number of all observations
