Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let  five consecutive even numbers x,(x+2),(x+4),(x+6),(x+8)

x+(x+2)+(x+4)+(x+6)+(x+8)=660

5x+20=660

x=(660–20)/5x=128.

Then sum of the greatest and and smallest nunber is (x+8)+x

= (128+8)+128

= 264.

To find : sum of the greatest and the smallest

Given : The sum of five consecutive even numbers is 660.

Solution :

  • Let , five consecutive even numbers be , x , ( x+ 2 ), (x + 4), (x + 6 ) , (x+ 8 ).
  • According to given condition we have , x + ( x+ 2 ) + (x + 4) +  (x + 6 ) + (x+ 8 ) =660
  • Adding terms we get , 5x + 20 =660

                                              x = \frac{640}{5}

                                              x = 128

  • Therefore , smallest number is , x = 128 and largest number is , x + 8 = 128 + 8

                 = 136

sum of the greatest and the smallest  : 128 + 136 = 264
