Answer:

The Principal Quantum Number (signified by the letter 'n'): This quantum number was the first one discovered and it was done so by Niels Bohr in 1913. Bohr thought that each electron was in its own unique energy level, which he called a "stationary state," and that each electron would have a unique value of 'n. '

Answer : Neil Bhor with the help of his atomic model explained that certain special orbits known as discrete orbits of electrons are allowed inside the atom while revolving in discrete orbits the electrons do not radiate energy this orbits are shell are called energy levels . The distribution of electrons into different orbits of an atom were suggested by Bohr and Bury . The rules which are to be followed while writing the number of electrons in different energy levels are shells are as follows :

  1. The maximum number of electrons present in a shell is given by the formula 2n² . where n is the number of shell or orbit .
  2. The maximum number of electrons that can be accommodated in the outermost orbit is 8 and the minimum is 4 .
  3. Electrons are not accommodated in a given shell unless the inner shells are filled that is the shells are filled in a stepwise manner
