Here is the answer you were looking for:
 \frac{8}{x}  -  \frac{4}{3}  = 12 \\  \\  \frac{8}{x}  = 12 +  \frac{4}{3}  \\  \\  \frac{8}{x}  =  \frac{12 \times 3 + 4 \times 1}{3}  \\  \\  \frac{8}{x}  =  \frac{36 + 4}{3}  \\  \\  \frac{8}{x}  =  \frac{40}{3}  \\

On cross multiplying we get,

3(8) = 40(x) \\  \\ 24 = 40x \\  \\  \frac{24}{40}  = x \\  \\ x =  \frac{3}{5}
