Step-by-step explanation:

Let the present ages of father is 'f' and son is 's'.

8 yr's ago:

father's age 8 ago is f-8

Given,

f-8=2s let this be eq1

4 yr's hence:

father's age 4yr's hence is f+4

son's age 4yr's hence is s+4

Given,

(f+4)+(s+4)=64 let this eq2

Now solving these two equations

eq1 can be written as f=2s+8

and substituting the f in eq2

(f+4)+(s+4)=64

(2s+8+4)+(s+4)=64

3s+16=64

3s=48

s=16 yr's

Now substituting s value in f-8=2s we get

f=2s+8

f=2*16+8

f=32+8

f=40 yr's
