What is an actual resource? How is it different from a potential resource?

(a) Difference between potential and actual resources:
Potential Resources
(i) Those resources whose total quantity is not known.
(ii) They are not being used at present.
(iii) As technology improves their use in future is possible.
(iv) Uranium found in Ladakh is an example of potential resources.
Actual Resources
(i) Those resources whose total quantity is known.
(ii) They are being used at the present time.
(iii) Available technology is used to use these resources.
(iv) Rich deposits of coal in Rubr region of Germany is an example of actual resources.

Potential resources are known to exist and may be used in the future. ... Actual resources are those that have been surveyed, their quantity and quality determined, and are being used in present times. For example, petroleum and natural gas is actively being obtained from the Mumbai High Fields.
Everything available in our environment which can be used to satisfy our needs , provided , it is technologically accessible , economically fesiable and culturally acceptable can be termed as Resource.
Potential Resources: Resources which are found in a region , but have not been utilized.
For Example, the western parts of india particularly Rajasthan and Gujarat have enormous potential for the development of wind and solar energy but so far these have not been developed properly.
