Total force applied by engine, f1=40000N
Frictional force = 5000N
Fnet = f1+f2
= 40000N +(-5000N)
= 35000N
ii) Accelerating of the train
total accelerating force= 35000
Total mass lf the train= 2000*5 = 10000
F = ma
a = f/m
= 35000/10000
= 3.5 m/s^2
