Question  :

81. A man walks 80 m in 20 s, then turns back and

walks 50 m towards the starting point in 30 s.

Find his average velocity.

1) 0.50 m/s

2) 0.60 m/s

3) 54 m/s

4) 60 m/s

Answer :

(2) 0.60 m/s

Explanation :

Average Velocity :

" It is defined as the total displacement per total time . "

(or) The average velocity of an object is its total displacement divided by the total time taken

Here a man walks 80 m in 20 s and walks back 50 m in 30 s.

Displacement is the shortest distance and measured as difference b\w final and initial distance.

=> Total Displacement = 80m - 50m

=> Total Displacement = 30 m

Total Time = 20s + 30s

=> Total Time = 50s

So , Average Velocity = (Total Displacement ) / (Total Time)

=> Average Velocity = 30/50 = 0.6 m/s

So option (2) is correct .
