The answer is given below :

We solve this problem by Method of Substitution.

The given equations are

8x - 3y = 1 .....(i)

34x - 3y = 14 .....(ii)

We subtract (ii) from (i). Then,

(8x - 3y) - (34x - 3y) = 1 - 14

⇒ 8x - 3y - 34x + 3y = - 13

⇒ (8 - 34)x + (- 3 + 3)y = - 13

⇒ - 26y + 0y = - 13

⇒ - 26y = - 13

⇒ y = 1/2

Now, putting y = 1/2 in (i), we get

8x - 3(1/2) = 1

⇒ 8x - 3/2 = 1

⇒ 8x = 1 + 3/2

⇒ 8x = (2 + 3)/2

⇒ 8x = 5/2

⇒ x = 5/16

So, the required solution be

x = 5/16 and y = 1/2.
