8x+y=15..............(1)

3x+y=2................(2)

subtract equation (2) from (1)

8x+y=15

3x+y=2

(-) (-) (-). .... (sign changes)

5x = 13

x= 13/5

Answer:

x = 26

y = (-5.8)

For more confirmation you can put the value of y in eq 2.
