Given:-

x+y=9\\xy=16

Required to find:-

x^2+y^2

Procedure:-

x^2+y^2=(x+y)^2-2xy

Since we know the value of  x+y  and xy, let us put their values in this equation.

x^2+y^2=(9)^2-2*16=81-32=49

x^2+y^2=49
