Given:

Current passing through molten AlCl₃ (I) = 9.65 A

Mass of Aluminium deposited at the cathode = 0.09 g

Time = 1 min 40 sec = 100 sec

To find:

The valency of aluminium

Calculation:

we know the relation

    Mass\ deposited=\frac{Atomic\ weight\times i\times t}{n\ factor}

By substituting the given values in the above relation

    0.09=\frac{27\times 9.65\times 100}{n\times96500}

    n=\frac{27\times 9.65\times100}{0.09\times96500}

    n=3

Final answer:

The valency of the aluminium is 3
