Answer:

a) since it belongs to third period ,  it has three shells

and it belongs to second period. So ,  it has 2 valence electrons

   So , Electronic configuration = 2,8,2

b)it is a metal

because elements which have 1,2,3 electrons in their outermost shell are metals

c)

i) Y = 2,6

since it has six valency electrons ,  it's valency is -2

so when we use criss cross method,

 X³⁺         Y²⁻

 it forms X₂Y₃

ii)Z= 2,8,7

since it has seven valence electrons , it's valency is -1

  the same way as above,

   X³⁺        Z¹⁻

   it forms XZ₃

hope it helps:)
