Given data : A river 3 m deep and 40 m wide is flowing at the rate of 2 km/hr.

To find ; How much water will fall into the sea in a minute?

Solution : Here, depth of river = 3 m and width of river = 40 m

Now, we take length as distance

Here, speed = 2 km/m = 2000/3600 m/s = 5/9 m/s and time = 1 min = 60 sec

By formula :

⟹ speed = distance/time

⟹ 5/9 = distance/60

⟹ distance = 5/9 * 60

⟹ distance = 300/9

⟹ distance = 100/3 m

∴ length = 100/3 m

Now,

⟹ volume of water falling = length * depth * height

⟹ volume of water falling = 100/3 * 3 * 40

⟹ volume of water falling = 100 * 40

⟹ volume of water falling = 4000 m³

Here, we know 4000 m³ = 4000000 litre

Hence, water fall into sea in one minute is 4000000 litre or 4000 m³.
