On supplying heat energy to water its temperature doesn’t change until the water vaporizes.
The heat supplied helps in changing the state by overcoming the forces of attraction between both the constituent particles.
This heat which is absorbed without the rise in temperature is known as the latent heat.

HEY!!
______________________________
✔When we supply heat energy to water, the temperature of water increases and hence its kinetic energy.
✔When the temperature reaches to 100 degree Celsius it becomes constant and the supplied heat is used up for changing water from liquid state to its vapour state.
✔This heat energy absorbed by the water without showing any rise in temperature is called Latent Heat of vaporisation.
