Given :–

  • An equation, 2p² – 5p – 3x = –6.
  • Where, value of p = –2.

To Find :–

  • Value of x.

Solution :–

Given equation is,

⟹ 2p² – 5p – 3x = –6

where, p = –2

Now, put the value of p in the given equation.

So,

⟹ 2(–2)² – 5(–2) – 3x = –6

⟹ 2(4) – 5(–2) – 3x = –6

⟹ Now, open both the brackets, we get

⟹ 8 + 10 – 3x = –6

Now, add 8 and 10.

⟹ 18 – 3x = –6

⟹ –3x = –6 – 18

⟹ –3x = –24

⟹ x =  \dfrac{\cancel- \cancel{24}}{\cancel- \cancel{3}}

⟹ x = 8

Hence,

The value of x is 8.

Check :–

Values of p and x are :-

  • p = –2
  • x = 8

Now, put both the values in the given equation.

Given equation is,

⟹ 2p² – 5p – 3x = –6

⟹ 2(–2)² – 5(–2) – 3(8) = –6

⟹ 2(4) – 5(–2) – 3(8) = –6

Now, open all the brackets,

⟹ 8 + 10 – 24 = –6

⟹ 18 – 24 = –6

⟹ –6 = –6

Since, the L.H.S. and the R.H.S. are equal.

So, the value of x is 8 is correct.
