India is called as Peninsula because it is surrounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the west and the Bay of Bengal on the east.

A landmass bounded by sea on three sides is referred to as Peninsula. It is surrounded by water on the majority of its border while being connected to a mainland from which it extends. The surrounding water is continuous in nature and it doesn't necessarily have to be a single water body.
