Total profit = Profit on shirts - Loss on pants;

Let there are x number of shirts:

820 = 50 * x - 4*20;

820 + 80 = 50x;

900 = 50x;

x = 900/50 = 90/5;

x = 18:

Shopkeeper sale 18 shirts and 4 pants;

18 shirts

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of shirts sold by him = x

The profit made on each shirt sold = Rs 50

Therefore, the profit made on selling the shirts = 50 * x

The loss on selling a pair of pants = Rs 20

Number of pairs of pants sold = 4

Therefore, the loss on selling the pants = 20 * 4 = Rs 80

Total profit = the profit made on selling the shirts - the loss on selling the pants

Given; Total profit = 820

820 = (50 * x) - 80

820 + 80 = 50x

50x = 900

Dividing by 50 on both sides

x = 18

Therefore, the number of shirts that were sold = x = 18
