Approximately 85% of fluid power circuits incorporate some form of cylinder (or linear actuator). The cylinder converts pneumatic or hydraulic pressure into thrust to perform useful work. Both air and hydraulic cylinders come in ram, telescoping, single-acting/spring-return, double-acting, double rod end, rodless, and tandem types.
