Water is also a compound because it is made from more than one kind of element (oxygen and hydrogen).Water have totally different property than its constituents hydrogen and oxygen. 3) Compounds are formed by chemical bonding between the elements while a mixture doesn't involve formation of a chemical bond. Now if you observe, water is formed by chemical bonding i.e. covalent bonding between hydrogen and oxygen.
