9. Pipe 'A' can fill an empty tank in 10 hours while pipe 'B' can empty the full tank in 12 hours.
If both are opened at the same time in the empty tank, how much time will they take to fill it
up completely ?​

5 \frac{5}{11} hours

time taken to fill that empty tank by pipe A= 10 hrs

time taken to fill that empty tank by pipe B= 12 hrs

Pipe A's 1 hour work= 1/10 part

Pipe B's 1 hour work= 1/12 part

Both pipes 1 hour work togetherly= 1/10+1/12

=(6×1+5×1)/60

= 11/60 part

Now,

time taken to fill the empty tank by both pipes simultaneously= 1/(11/60)

= 60/11= 5 whole 5/11 hours
