The kingfisher is a brightly coloured bird. It is found near rivers, lakes, canals or
big-ponds. It lives almost entirely on fish. It dives into the water to catch them. It seizes the
fish in its beak by the middle as it swims by. It then throws the fish into the air and catches
it again to swallow it head first. The kingfisher has its nest usually at the end of a tunnel,
about three feet long, made in a hole in a bank. It lines the nest with fishbones, which smell
