Correct Question:-

Roma gave a wooden board of length \sf{150 \frac {1}{4}}cm to a carpenter for making a shelf.The carpenter sawed off a piece of \sf{40 \frac {1}{5}}cm from it.What is the length of the remaining piece ?

Required Answer

The length of the remaining piece is \sf{110 \frac{1}{20}}

Given:-

  • Roma gave a wooden board of length \sf{150 \frac {1}{4}}cm to a carpenter for making a shelf.
  • The carpenter sawed off a piece of \sf{ 40\frac {1}{5}}cm from it.

To Find:-

What is the length of the remaining piece ?

Solution:-

Total Length of the wooden board = \sf{150 \frac {1}{4}}cm

Length sawed off by the carpenter = \sf{ 40\frac {1}{5}}cm

The length of the remaining piece = \sf{ 150\frac {1}{4}}cm - \sf{ 40\frac {1}{5}}cm

Changing into improper fraction : \sf{150 \frac {1}{4}}cm = \sf{ \frac{601}{4}};\sf{ 40\frac {1}{5}}cm =\sf{ \frac{201}{5}}

L.C.M of 4 and 5 is 20.

 \sf{ \frac{601 \times 5}{4 \times 5} =  \frac{3005}{20} : \frac{201 \times 4}{5 \times 4}  =  \frac{804}{20}}

 \sf{ \frac{3005}{20} -  \frac{804}{20}} =  \frac{2201}{20} =  110 \frac{1}{20}

The length of the remaining piece is \sf{110 \frac{1}{20}}
