Moment of force is also called Torque represented by .
It can be defined as the product of force and perpendicular distance between the line of force and axis of rotation .
Torque = Force × Perpendicular distance
In vector form ,
The moment of force , hence , becomes directly proportional to the force and perpendicular distance .
Therefore , to increase moment of force , following of the two could be done :
1) The magnitude of the force could be made larger .
2) The distance between axis of rotation and line of force could be increased .
SI unit of torque is Nm .
