Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the age of father be =x

Age of son = y

At present Sum of their ages is = 45

x+y = 45 ------------------ Eq 1

Father's age five years ago = x-5

Son's age five years ago = y-5

Product of their ages five years ago is = 34

(x-5)*(y-5) = 34  ------------- Eq 2

x= 45-y  --------(from eq 1)

Putting the value of "x" in Eq2

(45-y-5)(y-5)  = 34

(40-y)(y-5) = 34

y²-45y+234 = 0

Upon solving the above quadratic equation-

Y= 39 & 6

Therefor the age of the son is 6 and the age of the father is 39.

Hope this will help you. GOOD LUCK!!
