It is given that:

There are 42 students in a class.
And 5/7 of them were boys.
So,7/7-5/7=2/7 of them were girls.

To find the number of Boys we should multiply 5/7 with 42.

5/7*42=30.

To find the number of girls in the class we may multiply 2/7 with 42 or subtract 30 from 42.

2/7*42=12.
(or)
42-30=12.

Therefore, there are 12 girls in the class of 42 students.
