Let the number of total votes be x.

Then,
Percentage by which candidate won =
62% of total votes
= 62/100 × x. (as supposed)
= 62x/100

And,
Number of votes by which candidate won = 288

Then, According to the question,

Percentage by which candidate won = Number of votes by which candidate won

Putting the values

 \frac{62x}{100}  = 288
62x = 288 \times 100
62x = 28800
x =  \frac{28800}{62}
x = 464
Therefore, total number of voters cast in the election is 464.
That's your answer

Hope it'll help.. :-D
