Given:-

  • Two numbers are in the ratio of 5:6.
  • 8 is subtracted from each, the ratio becomes 4:5.

To find:-

  • The numbers.

Solution:-

Let,

  • the two numbers are x and y

According to the question

→ x/y = 5/6

→ x × 6 = y × 5

→ 6x - 5y = 0

→ x - 8/y - 8 = 4/5

→ 5x - 40 = 4y - 32

→ 5x - 4y = 8

→ x = 5y/6

→ 5(5y/6) - 4y = 8

y = 48

Now,

→ 6x - 5(48) = 0

→ 6x = 240

x = 40

Hence,

  • the numbers are 48 and 40.
