9. Two paths running parallel to the sides of a rectangular park cross each other at
right angles at the center of the park. The dimensions of the park are 80 m by 64
If the paths have a uniform width of 4 m, find the area covered by the paths.

Answer:

There are two rectangles and one square

Area of two rectangles = 80×4 and 64×4

The area of square in the middle = 4×4 which has to be subtracted

Therefore area of path = 80×4 + 64×4 - 4×4

=4(80 + 64 -4) = 4(80+60) = 4×140 = 560 Ans
