thus,

For 1:40

hour hand makes a rotation of 20° (40 mins. see point 1)

Min hand makes a rotation of 30° for 5 min. therefore, from 2:00,the degree it rotates till 1:40 will be 180°

the hour hand travels only 20° from 1:00
