THUS............................!!!!!

 -   \frac{ 3}{8}  + x =  \frac{5}{12}

THUS

 -  \frac{3}{8}  +  \frac{x}{1 }   =  \frac{5}{12}

 \frac{ - 3 + 8x}{8}  =  \frac{5}{12}

12( - 3 + 8x) = 8 \times 5

 - 36 + 96x = 40

96x = 40 + 36

96x = 76

x =   \frac{76}{96}
