This is because glass is transparent and completely see through. If we kept our valuables there, it would be in plain view of everyone and therefore would be in danger of being stolen. But if we store it in a wooden/metallic almirah the valuables will not be in plain view. Also wood and any kind of metal is hard to break while glass is brittle.
