Either ‘a lot of presents’ or ‘many presents’ would be correct.

I think that you have seen or heard a sentence with ‘many of’ in it. This is because ‘many’ can be either an adjective or a pronoun.

If it’s an adjective, there is never an ‘of,’ e.g. “We heard many good ideas,” “She didn’t get many presents for her birthday,” and “Do you have many friends?”

If it’s a pronoun, it can be used with or without ‘of,’ e.g. “There are five hundred students in this school, and many are learning English” or “…many of them are learning English.”

Sometimes sentences with ‘man as an adjective or as a pronoun can be quite similar and even mean the same thing, e.g. “Many candies were sour” and “Many of the candies were sour.”

hope it helps youhh dear
