Let the present age of andromeda and achilles be a and b respectively.

According to first condition,

(a - 9) = 2(b-9)

=> a - 9 = 2b - 18

=> a - 2b = - 9

=> 2a - 4b = - 18 ---------(1)

According to second condition,

( a + 9) = 4 /3 ( b + 9)

=> 3a + 27 = 4b + 36

=> 3a - 4b = 9 -------(2)

On subtracting equation 1 from 2, we get

a = 9 + 18

a = 27

Now,

a - 2b = - 9

=> 27 - 2b = - 9

=> 2b = 36

=> b = 18

Andromeda's present age = 27 years

Achilles's present age = 18 years

So,

(x + 9) = 4/3 (y + 9)

3x +27= 4y + 36

3x - 4y = 9 (let it be the equation 2).

On subtracting equation 1 from 2, we get

2x - 4y - (3x - 4y) = 18 - 9

X = 9 + 18 = 27

The present age of Andromeda = x = 27 years.
