Water is an important source of human survival. . Major portion of water present on earth is in the form of oceans and seas. It comprises 96.5% of total earth's water while 2.5% exists as freshwater.

Let us see where the rest of the water exists.

  • The rest of the 2% of water is distributed unequally over the earth's surface.
  • 0.001% of total earth water is present in the atmosphere as water vapor mainly in the lower layers.
  • A very less percentage of water 0.038% is present as soil moisture held within the soil that helps the proliferation of plants and the ecosystem.
  • An approximate value of 0.26% of water is within various living beings that consume water on a daily basis for proper growth and functioning of their bodies.
  • The minor value of water is also present and used within the cycles for evaporation and transpiration.
  • The remaining portion of water is present in the form of ice, permafrost and ice caps, groundwater, aquifers, springs, etc
